artist statement
Photographed between 1998 and 2000 the series Bazaars of the Old Levant references the artist's interest in Middle Eastern culture and history and in the process and product of the mid to late 19th Century European photographers of the region. The work is comprised of 45 photographs of the bazaars of Aleppo, Cairo, Damascus, Istanbul and Jerusalem.

All images are unique, toned, silver gelatin prints, 20 X 24 inches, and come in an edition of 5, with one Artist Proof. The photographs were made from Polagraph, a Polaroid slide film which no longer exists, and printed through an inter-negative process on Ektalure paper, also now non-existent. |
